When I Was A Kid...

It's time for a new list. The theme for this one will be what us older people would like to share with the younger generation about how life is easier now than when we were their age. "When I Was a Kid" or WIWAK for easier typing.

I'll start it off with a couple that came to me as I was setting up our old, I mean "vintage" Atari 2600 for my kids to play with.

1. Saved games? Why when I was a kid, we couldn't save our games. We couldn't even pause them. If you wanted to keep a high score (scores were the most important part of the game back then) you had to grab a pen and paper and write it down, or take a picture of it.

2. WIWAK, we didn't have any "wireless controllers". Heck, we thought a game was complicated if it required having to use more than one button and a joystick.

Please submit your own bits of wisdom. Show these youngsters how easy they've got it.

You know you've been wanting to.

wiwak...I was the one that turned the dial to change the channel on the tv, turned the knob to turn the volume on the tv, move the long antennae with the even longer aluminum foil wraps to get less fuzz on the tv....i was the baby....i was the remote control!

I don't know, I think it could be harder being a kid now. We only had one button and one stick, these kids today have to use ALL of their fingers and thumbs, and some digits are expected to perform multiple duties. I miss my simple one button technology.

Remember when you used to NOT know who was calling when the phone rang?? And you might have even rushed to answer it??

Nowadays, it's like I can't even be bothered to get off the couch to answer. I just think...next time I'm up I'll check caller ID and call them back.

Or how about having to play "car games" instead of watching DVD's on long road trips. We had Car Bingo, I Spy, and various games revolving around car license plates. (Or being allowed to sleep in the back of the van/station wagon....without *GASP* seatbelts!! My mom would actually make up beds with blankets, pillows, and everything! --anything to keep a few out of the 6 quiet!)
